More of less

More of less please...

During this “christmassy” time of year I find the words “less is more” ringing through my ears more than ever.  There is so much spending on irrelevant things going on.  Gluttony and greed are words that spring to mind, and those words are bouncing around in my head giving me a migraine! It is a very merry time of squandering and I feel a little sick. The expectations that people have of receiving gifts are so huge. It’s a money spending, taking time of year. It’s that time of year where we teach our children a want for materialistic junk, because God forbid we do not show our love through materialism. Whatever happened to showing our love through humble gestures and actions, every day of the year? I see very little of that these days...

My personal reaction to my thoughts is that I need to rid my life of clutter! Less IS more except for the need of MORE minimalism in our lives.

What does it mean to be minimalistic and what is minimalism in its truest form? This is a question that haunts me continuously. Is the human race, at this point in time, able to live up to the “less is more” aspiration?  Am I? To be minimalistic would mean letting go of many of our treasured little possessions. We live in a material world, as Madonna put it, oh yes we do, and letting go of “things” is sometimes one of the most difficult challenges for us humans.
Why is it so challenging to be what we were meant to be, to live a simple down to earth life, relying on our souls, hearts, minds and bodies to help us live on this gorgeous planet? It has gone far beyond our basic needs. In fact, it has gone far beyond our basic wants. This world is a bloody mess because of our wants!

Where or how could this simple life possibly begin?  Perhaps to start the process we need to look within.

In theory I think that to be minimalistic would involve letting go of the heart and mind’s possessions. What are these “possessions”?  They are obsessions! Obsessions with things, people, people’s expectations, how we think we should look on the outside, worry, work, money, social status and I am sure many more that have not yet jumped into my mind. We need “freedom from the trappings of the consumer culture we’ve built our lives around”.

Allow the heart and mind to be free of clutter and let it just be. Let go of expectations and preconceived judgments. Release those insecurities. Live and love simply and let go of complications. Go back to basics and let your feet come back down to earth.  Once we are able to do this we will be able to live in the moments more easily, and love them more. We should be more focused on living than on buying or possessing.  The more we possess, the more complicated our lives are.

Let go and allow your life to be filled with MORE simplicity ♥♥♥
